Rib Sale Again Supports SIGN

Updated: Dec 5, 2019

3rd Annual "Slabs for SIGN" raises funds and awareness for SIGN ministry.

On November 1 & 2, 2019, SIGN volunteers, partnering with Fired Up, prepared, smoked, packaged, and distributed 1,000 slabs of ribs to raise funds for SIGN and promote the SIGN ministry of serving widows and orphans in Baldwin County.

This year's event was centered at Spirit Park in Spanish Fort, where Fired Up smokers and trailers filled the upper parking lot on Friday afternoon to prepare to receive the ribs and volunteers. Volunteers took only about an hour to get the slabs prepped on Friday evening. Saturday morning Fired Up had the smokers ready to receive the first 600 ribs before 5 am, getting them off and getting the second round of 450 in the smokers, before 9 am to have them packaged and ready for distributing by 10 am. All of the 1,000+ pre-sold ribs were picked up at Spirit Park, 3 Circle Church in Fairhope, and Hedge Copeland Law Firm in Mobile from 10 am to 1 pm. Many hands made "light" work...many generous friends supported us by buying ribs...and many hearts were and will be warmed by the generous spirit of the day and the funds raised.

This note from SIGN board member and volunteer organizer Clay Walden captured the spirit of the event:

"I recognize this is coming out later than it should so please forgive me for being tardy in addressing this larger group in saying Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who helped with the Slabs for SIGN fundraiser this year. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun! We were very blessed with such a great group of people helping, cold but clear weather and an amazing partnership with FiredUp! to make this event so successful. This is our only organized fundraiser for the year and SIGN will net over $14K from this event alone !! This would not be possible without each of you.

I had said at the end of the event that we did our best and God did the rest, but He was truly guiding every move from the beginning. I cannot express enough how amazing it is to see you as volunteers showing up, not for recognition or self-promotion, but a sincere desire to help others. It is a very humbling experience and I am honored to have served alongside all of you.

Thank you for answering the call to serve!

Clay Walden"
